LOVE

I hate the term "in love"... it makes no sense to me. Most people who think they're "in love" are really just infatuated with someone. IMO, it takes quite a bit of time to truly love someone.

Being attracted to someone can happen instantly. Liking someone can happen in a really short time. I've found that first impressions of a person are uncannily accurate in predicting whether you'll enjoy the company of another person.

But really loving someone takes a lot of time. It requires sharing a lot of experiences, joys and sorrows, pleasures and disappointments. It requires knowing the other person's strengths and weaknesses, his good qualities and his bad. It requires making sacrifices, big and small, for each other. Having disagreements and arguments and getting beyond them.

If you've been through all those things and still care deeply, you can truly say you love that person. The Hollywood, romance novel stuff about being "in love" just strike me as being fairy tale stuff- meaningless/ephemeral/delusional.
