The Threes of Relationships
No relationship is perfect...should we stop expecting happily ever after and just take it day by day?
They say all things come in three: gay, straight, bi; male, female; trans. In gay relationships your significant other may be a boyfriend, a partner or a husband. Relationships too can be like jobs: some are just temporary, some more long term and careers and others just a blow job! And when you end one, there is always another one!
My friend Vee, Sha and I were discussing the hierarchy of relationships over lunch. Vee , Sha and I always seem to get into deep conversations. We three wondered...can relationships stay on one level: the boyfriend or can move up levels from boyfriend to partner and then on to husband.
Vee was saying that most relationship evolve or progress. I think some relationships are just temporary. I sorta understand why people get married and why women only want to have children after they get married. Marriage takes the relationship onto another level. Even though people divorce, a higher level in a relationship gives people a sense of security and of safety.
So when does a boyfriend become a partner? And when does a partner become a husband? Is it all just about time? Or is it just about living together? To me a boyfriend is someone you have fun with and spend the weekends with…a partner is someone you live with and share your life..and a husband is someone who becomes your family and is there when you get sick, will support you when you are down and the person you can tell anything.
