Surviving this weather is hard ...

I am not sure where I stand on my opinion of favorable weather conditions. I hate the hot, and I hate the cold. But I would swear that I love the cold when overheating, and I would swear that I care for a sweat when I’m frozen. Where is the even keeled climate of my dreams? I am sure that it does exist somewhere. Oh, one moment, must…get…a…coat on.

This morning, I woke up late, brushed my teeth and got dressed. The streetcar was late, or I had just missed the one before and now my coffee is cold. My closed captioning office is freezing and my excel sheet is littered with inaccurate airdates. The hat on my head is too tight and my jeans are loose and droopy. I’m not cool. I’m left out. I’m really fucking bored. This is what the last week of February feels like in Canada. Nothing feels good and everyone is annoyed. The cold has frozen our ability to be kind and we’re just fed up with this fucking cold! CP24 says it’s -14 but the Weather Network (which of course I reead on my IPhone) tells me it’s 66% humidity…it’s cold. Really cold.

Found one of my first best friends on FaceBook yesterday. I haven’t talked to him in about 20 years, since he moved back to Zurich. 20 years go by and we both end up doing a very similar thing - whatever made that happen must have been a factor in us becoming friends - or was us becoming friends the factor?

2009 Oscar Predictions

Sunday night, February 22nd, the 81st Annual Academy Awards. It’s Oscar Night!!

I am proud to be a movie buff and very proud that Hollywood, Bollywood and all points in between still take pride in the craft that is filmmaking. I was lucky enough to see all five Oscar nominated films and then some over the past year. I did not see every nominated film, but most critics did not either.

Here are my 2009 Oscar Predictions, these are just my picks, do not go bananas if you disagree, but I’d love to hear your opinions.

Best Picture : Slumdog Millionaire & Academy Pick : Slumdog Millionaire

Best Actor : Sean Penn , Milk & Academy Pick : Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler

Best Actress : Kate Winslet, The Reader & Academy Pick : Kate Winslet, The Reader

Best Supporting Actor : Heath Ledger , The Dark Knight & Academy Pick : Heath Ledger , The Dark Knight

Best Supporting Actress : Viola Davis, Doubt & Academy Pick : Viola Davis, Doubt

Well, there you have it, my 2009 Oscar Picks. What a great year for movies. Oh, one more pick, I think Hugh Jackman will do a very fine job.

Simply loved it. Beautifully told, along with great acting. Really makes you feel like you are in the 70's and shows you the horrible struggle homosexuals go through. Sean Penn couldn't have played Harvey Milk anymore perfeclty. Penn needs to win the Oscar and this should be a serious contender for movie of the year and an important piece of history that we can all learn something from. Thank you for making such an excellent film available ...

It’s Official: I’m Official!

So the day we’ve been waiting 14 months for finally arrived: as of today, February 10, 2009… I am an official Permanent Resident of Canada! Today was the actual day I went in to the Canada Immigration office to be granted the official status.

I know there was no reason to be nervous, but my stomach was doing flip flops all morning. I kept worrying that I would forget some important piece of ID, or the photos I had to have done wouldn’t be perfectly to spec… I was just worrying that SOMETHING silly would go wrong and they’d reject me. It all went off without a hitch, of course, there was just a lot of waiting.

We drove down to Canada Immigration Office and we walked to the government building where we waited for about an hour for my name to be called. We spent more time waiting than the actual “interview” took - I basically went into this tiny room to sign papers and that was it. The woman asked me a couple of simple questions, but they were all things that were listed on the document in front of me anyway, lol. I signed everything and she gave me my copy of the paperwork; this piece of paper I will guard with my life, as it is not only a temporary placeholder for the actual Permanent Resident card that I will receive in the mail in a few weeks, but also something I will need to keep for future dealings with the immigration office. I am legally a permanent resident now.

So ya, it’s been an exciting day! We going to a restaurant called Kelsey tonite to celebrate ...

I Am Just So That Into It!

I went last night to see He’s just not that into you.This was a great Movie! If you have read the book... or even if you haven't, this movie will make every man and woman think about past relationships and maybe even about the future of there current relationships. Was very funny over all. A must see!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! LOVE LOVE LOVED IT! It was funny and smart, however, the end does betray the message for the rest of the movie.

Super Bowl Weekend!

I am NOT a sports fan, well - except for Hockey. I don’t know why I like Hockey. It is weird, but I like Hockey.

Oh man, has this Sunday been a LONG time coming. I don’t follow football religiously or anything, but the fact that the Cardinals are finally in the Big Game is a really huge deal in Phoenix. Anyway, I’ll probably end up making some of my recipes that I’ve posted. Like Southern Fried Chicken, my signature dish "Daging Masak Itam" & etc . Not sure who or how many will be at my house just yet.As long as they bring food, I don’t care.So - what are you cooking for Super Bowl Sunday? Send me some recipes so I can try something new.
